California and the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games!!!

So, back in July, Cody and I went to California to celebrate my 30th birthday and to go to the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games!!!  We left on July 21st and got back on July 27th.  It was the longest time either of us had ever been away from Seiden for that long.  I had gone to Philly and NY the summer before with my parents and Mimi.  But, it was just me, Cody stayed home, and it was only for 4 and a half days.  This was basically for 7 because we left on the 21st before Seiden woke up and got back home on the 27th about an hour before bed time.  We had SO much fun.  But man...we were ready to see our girl!

We stayed at Terranea Resort and Spa in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.  It. Was. AMAZING!!!  While we were there, we didn't step foot off the resort except to do a little shopping and have lunch for my birthday and to go to the CrossFit Games.  The resort had 8 restaurants, plus room service.  There was no need to leave for any reason unless you had to.  It was so peaceful and relaxing too.  We got a room with an ocean view.  So, every morning, I would go work out right at sunrise so I could watch the sun come up, work out while staring off into the ocean, then head back to get Cody and I breakfast, and we would eat breakfast and I would drink my coffee on the balcony every morning.  He would go workout after he ate while I got ready.  Then, we would just lay around for the rest of the day at the cabanas that looked out over the ocean.  Because there were restaurants on the property, we would just walk from our room to whatever restaurant we chose for that meal.  We made it a point to try every single restaurant.  Our favorite was Bashi...an Asian restaurant with delicious sushi, noodles and rice, hibachi grill, and so much more.  It was so peaceful to be walking along in such beautiful weather hearing the ocean splashing against the beach below us.  We also saw a lot of dolphins out in the ocean while we were there.  It was amazing to see them out and about in such a natural environment.  The last day we spent the day solely at the resort, some of our best friends drove over to hang out and spend the day with us.  There were several couples there from Abilene to watch our good friend and gym partner, Roy Gamboa, compete in the CrossFit games...for the second time!  Anyways, Brent, Bria, Jessie, and Clayton got to the resort about lunch time.  We had already gone down to the pool and snagged lounge chairs that overlooked the ocean for all six of us.  We spent the rest of the day lounging, talking, hanging out in the pool, and relaxing before it was dinner time.  We had literally spent all afternoon just enjoying having some time to relax and chill together.  Some of us forgot (refused) to wear sunscreen...ME!  Totally got fried...not good since the next three days were going to be spent in the direct sunlight in Carson, CA watching the Games!  Oops.  After we left the pool, we headed to the bar and grill that overlooked the ocean called, Nelson's.  Dinner was amazing and we had all had such a fun day together!  We were anxious and excited for the Games the following days and had spent the last full day of relaxing in no better way!

For the next three days, our eyes were glued to the hundreds of the fittest men and fittest women on earth.  Literally.  Cody and I have been doing CrossFit for 5 years.  I know who a lot of these athletes are, I've done a lot of the same WODs they have done (not on the same level, obviously), I've watched the Games on TV for the past 4 years.  But, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would see these amazing athletes in the way that I saw them at the 2015 Games.  I can't even describe it.  The WODs they did were nearly impossible.  Some of the hardest WODs ever done before in the history of CrossFit.  And, these athletes competed in them, finished them, and proceeded to conquer each day with the exact same mentality.  There were 3 WODs each day and there were multiple divisions.  There was a men's division, women's division, under 18 division, master's division, and team division.  There are 16 regions, and the top 3 from each region made it to the Games from Regionals in each division.  So, we got to see the top 48 men, women, under 18 year old's, master's, and teams compete to see who would be the fittest on earth from each division.  Throughout the next three days, we yelled, encouraged, cheered, laughed, ate, sweated (a lot!), got some cool gear, saw some phenomenal athletes, and had an amazing time that we will never forget.  We had SO much fun cheering Roy on and watching him crush the WODs.  He did so good and had improved dramatically from the time he had been 2 years before.  Roy wound up getting 22nd overall, and we couldn't have been prouder!

While we were having a blast in CA, our little princess was back in Abilene having the time of her life!  Our sweet neighbor, her "Aunt Kimmie" kept Seiden during the day so she wouldn't have to go to day care and was with my parents every evening and on the weekend.  On our last day of the trip, Monday, my sweet Shelby came and babysat Seiden for us.  We got to FaceTime everyday with her and got lots of pictures from everyone back home.  It was so nice to have a little bit of alone time and time to relax, but man, we sure missed our girl!  Each time we got to FaceTime with her, she just looked so much bigger and just seemed to have grown up overnight!  I know Seiden had a blast with my parents, Kim, and Shelby.  She talked and talked (and still does!) about how much fun she had and all the artwork she did while we were away.  She went to the Base with Kim and saw all the airplanes.  They painted a picture, went swimming, planted flowers, and went on lots of walks!  Shelby is an amazing artist and owns Splendor Chalk Designs (check her out on Instagram and Facebook!).  And, because Shelby is the biggest sweetheart in the entire world, she and Seiden made me a picture to hang up on my gallery wall for our new house!  It is perfection!  These sweet people that loved on our girl while we were away are beyond amazing.  Some are family by blood and some are family by choice.  We love them and couldn't thank them enough for giving us a week of vacation.  We were able to relax and be at peace because we knew Seiden was in the best of care and having a ball while we were gone!  Getting to experience California and the 2015 CrossFit Games was an amazing trip and a great way to celebrate turning 30!!!
