MRI Before We Could Start Chemo (3-22-16)

Well, before we started Seiden on her new chemo treatment, Dr. Heym wanted to get an MRI so that he could see what the inside of her cheek looked like after her last sclerotherapy treatment.  The last MRI she had was on November 9, 2015.  Which, was the same day as her last sclerotherapy treatment.  Because we were starting the chemo treatment 4 months after the last MRI, Dr. Heym just wanted to see if there had been any more reduction in the macrocysts.  It would  have a lot of impact on the amount of medicine he had decided to give her.  Plus, he just wanted a good starting point so that he could go back and reference to see her progress once we got her started on the medicine.  After Seiden had her MRI, we met with Dr. Heym to talk about the results so that we could get her started on the medicine ASAP.  It was a bit of a looong morning.  But, the great part was that Dr. Heym got the results just about an hour after her MRI.  In fact, Dr. Mac was the interventional radiologist that was reading the MRI's that day, so he got to read Seiden's MRI and give Dr. Heym the results!  When Dr. Heym walked into the exam room, he gave us the GREAT news that Seiden's cheek, and the cysts, had improved SO much and that from the MRI in November to the MRI in March, there was a drastic reduction in the amount of cysts.  It was just confirmation that going on the Sriolimus/Rapamune was a great decision and would be perfect for her and an easy transition into this type of therapy that would also be non-invasive.

Thankfully, when we go to Cooks in Ft. Worth to have MRI's, it's not as bad as when we go for an actual surgery.  Because she wasn't having anything surgically done, it's a lot less painful and therefore a lot less easier for her to come out of the anesthesia.  Which, is a lot easier on mama and daddy's hearts!  Also, on MRI days, we try to have a little more fun with her after she's woken up and feeling good.  Today, we went down to Build-A-Bear and she picked out a new friend and got fro-yo from the yogurt shop that's inside Cooks.  We always try to make the most out of a hospital day, and I think Seiden had a pretty great day on this trip!  The news we received was wonderful and we will be starting the Sirolimus/Rapamune treatment on March 28th!
